Corporate versus independent is the first thing techs ask each other about a clinic, and both have their own problems. Independent clinics tend to be smaller, with one or two DVMs, more variety in the day and a manager who can say yes to a schedule change without a regional call. They are also where benefits can be thin and raises informal. Ask about the raise schedule, the CE budget as a number and who covers when someone is out.

Is an independent clinic better than a corporate one
Neither is better across the board, and techs on Reddit say the clinic and the manager matter more than the owner. Independent clinics score on flexibility and variety; groups score on benefits, CE budgets and transfer options. The working interview is where you check the one in front of you.
