Position Summary
Exceptional oncology care requires advanced technical skills, thoughtful systems, and deep compassion. At Timberline, we believe every role on our team contributes meaningfully to patient outcomes and client experience.
We are seeking an Oncology Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to help support and grow our oncology service. This role is a steady, skilled presence within the department, supporting patients diagnosed with cancer, empowering clients through clear communication, and collaborating closely with veterinarians and hospital leadership to deliver evidence-based, compassionate, and timely care.
As part of the oncology team, you will contribute to workflow development, department organization, and the continued growth of a cohesive, high-performing oncology service.
What You’ll Do:
- Support the setup, organization, and daily operations of the oncology service.
- Assist in developing and following standard operating procedures (SOPs) for patient intake, treatment scheduling, and chemotherapy handling and administration.
- Perform pre-exams, obtain patient histories, vital signs, diagnostics, and lab samples.
- Perform treatments and administer medication under the direction and supervision of the veterinarian, following all safety and handling protocols.
- Monitor patients during and after treatments and report changes promptly.
- Anesthetize and monitor patients for procedures or imaging as needed.
- Maintain accurate medical records in Instinct and prepare treatment sheets.
- Fill prescriptions and coordinate follow-up appointments.
- Provide clear, compassionate client education and support.
- Support oncology inventory management, medications, PPE, and safety protocols.
- Collaborate with veterinarians, hospital leadership, and cross-functional teams.
- Mentor and support team members and participate in ongoing training.
- Participate in required meetings and model Timberline’s PEAK Principles.
What We’re Looking For:
- Active WA State LVT license.
- Strong technical skills, including advanced medical math and chemotherapy dosing.
- Knowledge of chemotherapy safety protocols and cytotoxic drug handling.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to patient and team safety.
- Clear, compassionate communication skills, especially with clients facing difficult decisions.
- Positive attitude, collaborative work style, and growth mindset.
- Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced specialty environment.
- Previous experience in oncology, internal medicine, emergency, or leadership roles preferred.
Schedule, Compensation, and Benefits:
- Hourly compensation is based on experience and skill level ($33 – $45/hr).
- Shift differentials apply for overnight and weekend shifts in addition to hourly rates.
- Competitive medical benefits, quarterly profit sharing, stock appreciation rights, and participation in our future Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
- Unlimited continuing education opportunities for veterinary and leadership topics, with travel and lodging allowances every other year.
- As an emergency and specialty hospital, all team members are required to participate in a rotation for holiday coverage, which includes working at least one summer and one winter holiday.
If you're passionate about patient care, love collaborative medicine, and want to grow in a privately owned practice where your skills are valued ~ we’d love to meet you.
