What the job involves

Vet techs are the nurses of the clinic: they place IV catheters, draw blood, run in-house lab work, take radiographs, monitor anesthesia, assist in surgery, clean teeth under a veterinarian's supervision and talk clients through home care. Most states expect a credentialed tech (CVT, RVT or LVT) to hold a degree from an AVMA-accredited program and pass the VTNE, and the credentialed title is protected in most states.
