As a Doctor’s Assistant supporting Veterinary Surgery, you’ll connect surgeons, technicians, referring veterinarians, and pet owners—helping each patient move smoothly from consultation through recovery.

You’ll thrive here if you enjoy building client trust, coordinating multiple details, and translating medical information into clear, reassuring guidance. Your work will help families feel prepared, informed, and supported during some of their pet’s most important moments.

Role at a Glance

  • Position: Doctor’s Assistant – Veterinary Surgery
  • Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Shifts: Four or five weekday day shifts
  • Experience: At least two years of recent veterinary experience
  • Best fit: A knowledgeable, detail-oriented communicator who enjoys coordinating care and supporting clients

What You’ll Do

  • Coordinate surgical consultations, procedures, recheck appointments, and related documentation.
  • Guide clients through pre-operative preparation, discharge, recovery, medications, and aftercare.
  • Perform phone triage for prospective surgical patients and help determine appropriate next steps.
  • Prepare patient estimates and invoices, fill prescriptions, and coordinate pharmacy orders.
  • Communicate with referring veterinarians and obtain medical records needed for continuity of care.
  • Follow up with surgical patients after discharge and provide daily updates to families of hospitalized patients.
  • Partner closely with surgeons and surgery technicians to support excellent patient outcomes.
  • Assist with appointments, inventory, and ordering as needed.

What You’ll Bring

  • A genuine commitment to animal care and compassionate client support.
  • Strong veterinary medical knowledge and sound judgment.
  • Clear, professional communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to prioritize and multitask in a busy hospital environment.
  • Confidence working independently and collaboratively.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organization.
  • A calm, supportive approach during stressful situations.
  • Comfort using a paperless computer system.

Qualifications

  • Required: High school diploma or GED and at least two years of recent veterinary experience.
  • Preferred: Previous surgery or specialty veterinary experience.

Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week, scheduled across four or five weekday day shifts.

Why You’ll Love This Role

Make a visible difference for pets and their families while using your veterinary knowledge in a collaborative specialty-care environment. You’ll build meaningful relationships, work closely with an experienced surgical team, and help create a calm, well-coordinated experience from the first call through post-operative follow-up.
