Animal and Bird Hospital of Del Mar is seeking motivated, compassionate individuals to join our team as Veterinary Assistants. This position is ideal for someone who is eager to begin or continue a career in veterinary medicine and thrives in a collaborative, team-focused environment. 

No prior experience is required for candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and the ability to work well with others. Experienced veterinary assistants are encouraged to apply and will be supported in expanding their technical skills and professional growth.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technical staff with patient care and treatments 
• Safely restrain animals during examinations, diagnostics, and procedures 
• Administer medications as directed by a veterinarian 
• Assist during medical procedures and emergencies 
• Collect blood, urine, and fecal samples and learn proper laboratory handling techniques 
• Prepare for and clean up after surgical procedures 
• Clean and sanitize cages, kennels, and treatment areas 
• Bathe and groom animals as needed 
• Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the hospital 
• Support a positive client experience through professionalism and compassionate care 

Qualifications & Skills

• Passion for animal care and interest in veterinary medicine 
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment 
• Strong teamwork and communication skills 
• Willingness to learn new skills and accept constructive feedback 
• Ability to safely lift and restrain animals of varying sizes 
• Previous veterinary or animal handling experience is a plus, but not required
